Mother of Pearl Shell Jewellery - Items tagged as "Pearl pendant"

Mother of Pearl comes from the inner layer of the Pinctada Maxima shell, which is a large oyster found in  the  ocean around Australia and South East Asia.

Mother of pearl is actually the same substance that forms pearls, called nacre. It’s strong, iridescent, and has those lovely shimmering colours.

To create jewellery, the shell is carefully cut and shaped into pieces which  can be used for inlays of rings, pendants, earrings, or even carved into different shapes. It’s polished to highlight that natural shine, and then set into metals like gold or silver.

The result is beautiful, and it’s used for high-end, elegant pieces, just like pearls themselves!
